Bolt Tightening with a TurnAnut

Tightening with a TurnAnut™ DTI fastener is just the same as it was with a DTI under the turned element. When minimum tension (plus 5% with US practice) is reached, there will be a gap that is slightly greater than .005” (or .125mm). This ensures that when flattened the bolt will be safely above the required minimum tension. Because today’s TurnaSure® DTI’s have adjusted geometry in the pockets, they can be fully flattened with confidence provided tightening ceases after they are flattened. This is an aid to visual inspection. Any inspection with the .005” or .125mm feeler gauge is to assure that gaps are smaller than .005” or .125mm, so the gauge becomes a “NO-GO” inspection tool with only minimal use necessary.
